Minister of health singing the song “Nguoi con gai song la ” as a special gift for heroine La Thi Tam

On a trip visiting heroine La Thi Tam – the person who was the direct inspiration for the song “Nguoi con gai song la”, Minister of health Nguyen Kim Tien sung this song to her.

On a special occasion going back to Ha Tinh to attend 50^th anniversary of Dong Loc victory, Minister of health Nguyen Kim Tien visited heroine La Thi Tam who is now 69 year old, living in Nam Ha, Ha Tinh.

After offering a few words of encouragement and paying compliments to the heroine, Ms Tien surprised her by singing the song “Nguoi con gai song la” as a way to show great respect for her sacrifice and struggle for national liberation and reunification during the war against foreign invaders. While Ms Tien was singing, heroine Tam and other people who are leaders of department of health took part in by giving her a clap following the song. The two women started to hug each other when Ms Tien finished the famous song.

Heroine Tam’s Birthplace was in Vinh Loc in Ha Tinh Province. At 18 years old, she joined the army and became a regular member of combatant unit 2 of combatant forces at the Đồng Lộc T-junction battlefield. During the war, she was assigned the task of standing on a high mountain to count the number of bombs dropped by US army.

In 1970 on a visit to Ha Tinh, Doan Nho musician who directly witnessed the high mountain where the heroine hold responsibility for collecting information of the numbers of dropped bombs and missiles at Đồng Lộc T-junction every day and with a strong feeling for this legendary place, he wrote “Nguoi con gai song la” which he later confessed that he found a source of inspiration from heroine La Thi Tam as a main character and ideas for the song.

Several months after hearing about the song, heroine La Thi Tam emotionally shared that this was the victory of every Thanh – Nghe – Tinh female soldiers who are  brave and undaunted but not only her.
